Vacation Program Descriptions

Monday (Feb 17th)
Morning Cambrian: The first big explosion of multi-cellular life! Learn about the first fossils, the difficulty of interpreting the strange creatures of the Burgess Shale, and what life under the sea was like before there were fish or even internal skeletons. Robotics: With Lego Mindstorms you'll build and program a robot. You'll learn the basics of programming then set your creation loose!
Break WORMS: Chomp down on some of the earliest complex life!
Afternoon Ancient Ocean: Build an undersea diorama featuring some of the better-known fauna and flora of the Cambrian.

Tuesday (Feb 18th)
Morning Paleozoic: Trace the evolution of life as first plants and then animals move from the depths of the sea floor to the tops of mountains, until at last the ancestors of reptiles and mammals roamed across the entire globe. Robotics: With Lego Mindstorms you'll build and program a robot. You'll learn the basics of programming then set your creation loose!
Break Shark Seas: Eat some apex predators.
Afternoon Pangea Puzzle: What are tectonic plates, and how important are they?

Wednesday (Feb 19th)
Morning Triassic-Jurassic: Dinosaurs first appeared in the Triassic and went on to rule the planet for 120 million years! And many other animals appeared during this time, from the also extinct pterodactyls and plesiosaurs to the still existent salamanders and turtles, as well as all sorts of plant life. Robotics: With Lego Mindstorms you'll build and program a robot. You'll learn the basics of programming then set your creation loose!
Break Seedtastic: Aren't you glad plants evolved these?
Afternoon Dino Cube: Pick your favorite dinosaur and learn all you can about how it lived, what it ate, how big it was and other fascinating facts. Then fold a cube with all that info and add a great picture of your new dino friend!

Thursday (Feb 20th)
Morning Cretaceous: The last age of the dinosaurs, complete with the mighty T. rex, the beginning of modern birds, and the first appearance of all sorts of plants we take for granted today. Robotics: With Lego Mindstorms you'll build and program a robot. You'll learn the basics of programming then set your creation loose!
Break Jello Rex: Jiggly king.
Afternoon Flower Power: Flowers first appeared at the end of the Cretaceous period. We'll dissect a flower and learn about how its many specialized structures evolved.

Friday (Feb 21st)
Morning Ice Age: The dinosaurs are long gone but new beasts have taken their place, including one particularly clever one that would come to dominate the globe. Robotics: With Lego Mindstorms you'll build and program a robot. You'll learn the basics of programming then set your creation loose!
Break Baked Apple: Heat does more than make food tasty.
Afternoon Ancient Art: Early humans worked hard to survive in a harsh world, but still found time for art using materials from nature.





Vacation Week Tuition

Dates: Feb 17th-21st.
Program hours: 9:00am-4:00pm.

Daily Schedule: Morning is one science class and one technology class, followed by lunch and recess. We then get back to learning with a fun educational activity in the afternoon.
Extended hours: Extended AM hours are offered starting at 8:15am at an additional cost of $8 per day.
Extended PM hours are offered from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at an additional cost of $8 per half hour.
