Vacation Program Descriptions

Friday (Feb 15th)
Morning Pokemon in Winter: The Pokemon team made ice monsters out of fir trees, foxes, and furry crabs. What do they have in common, and what can they tell us about real-world life? Robotics: With Lego Mindstorms you'll build and program a robot. You'll learn the basics of programming then set your creation loose!
Break Pokeball Crispies: Capture the taste.
Afternoon Light-up Quiz: Learn about electric currents and completing the circuit, then use this knowledge to create a quiz game to bring home.

Monday (Feb 18th)
Morning Ice Age: The Pleistocene era was full of amazing animals. While many are familiar with mammoths, there were also thousand-kilogram cave bears, car-sized armodillos, and even nine-foot sabertoothed salmon! Robotics: With Lego Mindstorms you'll build and program a robot. You'll learn the basics of programming then set your creation loose!
Break Glacial Jello: What lurks within?
Afternoon Prehistoric Puppets: Create paper prehistoric puppets and map out a spiraling timeline of life on Earth.

Tuesday (Feb 19th)
Morning Sound Science: If a tree falls in a forest, does it make a sound? What is sound, exactly, and how can you get so many different notes out of a single piece of string? Robotics: With Lego Mindstorms you'll build and program a robot. You'll learn the basics of programming then set your creation loose!
Break Crunchy Chips: A concert in your mouth.
Afternoon Pleasing Percussion : Let's make some instruments!

Wednesday (Feb 20th)
Morning Icy Adaptions: Winter can be a difficult season for animals: it's cold, food is scarce, and deep snow makes it hard to get around. Some migrate to warmer lands, but many stay behind. Let's find out how the fauna around us survive wintertime. Robotics: With Lego Mindstorms you'll build and program a robot. You'll learn the basics of programming then set your creation loose!
Break Hibernation Treats: Pack it in.
Afternoon Bird Fun: Midwinter is a tough time for our feathered friends, especially the native birds of North America. Make their days better with birdfeeders!

Thursday (Feb 21st)
Morning The Secret of Balance: How do things stay up and why do they fall down? Why does dropped toast always land on the buttered side? What's the trick to making a water bottle land perfectly? Learn how weight, gravity and symmetry figure into everyday life. Robotics: With Lego Mindstorms you'll build and program a robot. You'll learn the basics of programming then set your creation loose!
Break Cubes: Stackable snacks.
Afternoon Catapult Comparisons: We'll explore the many factors that go into flinging objects across the room as we build and test out catapults.

Friday (Feb 22nd)
Morning Roots and Rainbows:You can dye cut flowers easily, yet you can't make blue roses by watering white ones with food coloring...but you can change the color of hydrangias from pink to blue or blue to pink with a bit of fertilizer. We'll get to the root of how and what plants absorb from their surroundings. Robotics: With Lego Mindstorms you'll build and program a robot. You'll learn the basics of programming then set your creation loose!
Break Flowers: No, really.
Afternoon Sleeping Seeds:All the plants look dead in winter, even the trees. How do they survive the freezing temperature? And what about the seeds and bulbs in the frozen ground?
