Vacation Program Descriptions
Friday (Feb 16th) |
Morning | Deoxyribonucleic Acid: Deoxyribonucleic acid, or DNA, is the building block of human life. But why? Why do we, and all complex life, use DNA instead of RNA like so many bacteria? Why does all life use ribonucleic acids at all? And what will it look like when we harvest globs of DNA to gawk at? | Robotics: With Lego Mindstorms you'll build and program a robot. You'll learn the basics of programming then set your creation loose! |
Break | Strawberry DNA: Taste the nuclei! |
Afternoon | Papercraft & Animation: Create paper creatures and then use them as characters in a stop-motion movie. |
Monday (Feb 19th) |
Morning | Dino Dig: Learn about some of the latest paleontological discoveries and the principles behind the geologic layers, then dig up a dinosaur of your own to reconstruct and take home! | Robotics: With Lego Mindstorms you'll build and program a robot. You'll learn the basics of programming then set your creation loose! |
Break | Jello Rex: Eat like a king. |
Afternoon | Papercraft & Animation: Create paper creatures and then use them as characters in a stop-motion movie. |
Tuesday (Feb 20th) |
Morning | Ice Slime: Explore polymers as we use chemical reactions to create both translucent and white slimes, then discover their similarities and differences through various experiements. | Robotics: With Lego Mindstorms you'll build and program a robot. You'll learn the basics of programming then set your creation loose! |
Break | Snowball Pudding: Have a ball! | Afternoon | Papercraft & Animation: Create paper creatures and then use them as characters in a stop-motion movie. |
Wednesday (Feb 21st) |
Morning | Biology of Star Wars: The big eyes of a porg, the nostils of a hutt, the curved claws of a wookie... What does the shape of a living creature tell us about its habitat, behavior, and abilities? How can you tell just by looking which aliens are likely friendly and which are more likely to have you for supper? | Robotics: With Lego Mindstorms you'll build and program a robot. You'll learn the basics of programming then set your creation loose! |
Break | Sarlacc Cake: Devour the devourer. |
Afternoon | Papercraft & Animation: Create paper creatures and then use them as characters in a stop-motion movie. |
Thursday (Feb 22nd) |
Morning | Crystals: Discover how microscopic structures determine macroscopic beauty as you study crystals under the microscope and make your own to take home! | Robotics: With Lego Mindstorms you'll build and program a robot. You'll learn the basics of programming then set your creation loose! |
Break | More Crystals: Crunchy. | Afternoon | Papercraft & Animation: Create paper creatures and then use them as characters in a stop-motion movie. |
Friday (Feb 23rd) |
Morning | Egg-ology: Why did even the biggest dinosaurs lay eggs no larger than an ostrich's? How are snake eggs different from eagle? How are duck eggs different than chicken? What sort of eggs do platypus lay? | Robotics: With Lego Mindstorms you'll build and program a robot. You'll learn the basics of programming then set your creation loose! |
