Vacation Program Descriptions
Tuesday (Dec 27th) |
Morning | Molecular Gastronomy - Caramel: What exactly is this delicious orange-brown treat, and what particular chemical reaction gives it its characteristic caramel flavor? We'll watch (and taste) it happen as we mix up a batch. | Robotics: With Lego Mindstorms you'll build and program a robot. You'll learn the basics of programming then set your creation loose! |
Afternoon | Vet School - Fish: As a creature whose life is so alien to our own, successfully keeping fish is really as much about the physics and chemistry of their surroundings as it is caring for the animal directly. But even the best-kept fish can still get sick, and we'll also learn about diagnosis and treatment of their varied and strange ailments. Featuring genetically-modified glofish! |
Wednesday (Dec 28th) |
Morning | Molecular Gastronomy - Ice Cream: Is ice cream made of cream, or milk? And why should you add salt to the ice? We'll conduct a series of icy-cream experiments to find out the best way to make this delicious treat. | Robotics: With Lego Mindstorms you'll build and program a robot. You'll learn the basics of programming then set your creation loose! |
Afternoon | Vet School - Lizards: What does a cold-blooded reptile need? You might think a heat rock, but there's actually far more to consider when it comes to the care and keeping of these scaled pets. Why do they need special lights? What sort of food do they eat? How does shedding their skin work, and can anything go wrong? Featuring a friendly bearded dragon! |
Thursday (Dec 29th) |
Morning | Molecular Gastronomy - Gummies: Just how are they so squishy and delicious? Well, it all starts with the gelatin... | Robotics: With Lego Mindstorms you'll build and program a robot. You'll learn the basics of programming then set your creation loose! |
Afternoon | Vet School - Gerbils: Gerbils! These little mammals may be small, but they still have particular needs and desires, some easily addressed and others more complicated, as well as some strange neurological quirks. What's the best cage and food? What should you never, ever do? Why must they be sold in groups? Featuring a gerbil trio! |
Friday (Dec 30h) |
Morning | Molecular Gastronomy - "Spider" Eggs: How can you make a candy with a solid, if squishy, outside, but which turns out to be full of sweet liquid juice when you bite into it? With the power of calcium, you'll discover it's easier than you might think! | Robotics: With Lego Mindstorms you'll build and program a robot. You'll learn the basics of programming then set your creation loose! |
Afternoon | Vet School - Cats: Learn all about how to approach, befriend, hold, and even safely examine these fluffy superpredators. Why can't cats be vegan? What does blinking mean to cats? How incredibly soft is their fluffy belly, and what's the secret to touching it? Featuring both adult and baby versions! |
